Third Grade English Language Learner/Newcomer Room 205 2013
After a nice, productive three days, I needed to make myself some homemade pho noodle soup.  Yummy in my tummy.  Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  Rest up because the hard work to being able to read and write and understand math facts will continue Tuesday!

I want to thank one of my student's generous moms. Our classroom is sweltering hot so the student said "my mom has lots of fans at home, I should ask her if I can bring one in." After school, I mentioned this statement to her mother. Her mother said she'd be happy to give us one. Well, this very morning, she brought into my room a brand new fan! She told me to keep it a gift to the class. It looks small, but it is so much more powerful than the tall one I've been using. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Welcome to Third Grade!

Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to third grade.  My name is Ms. Chuk and I will be your child’s 3rd grade teacher.  I look forward to working with and getting to know you and your child.  We are continuing with the Reading Street reading program this year. I will be working hard to continue to develop and strengthen your child’s reading skills.  Some students will “Walk to Read” during Small Group Reading time which means some of them will go to other teachers to work on their reading skills.  Our EnVision math program is a very good program.  Math homework usually reinforces the math lesson of that day.  In Science, we have a lot of hands-on activities that your child will enjoy while learning valuable science concepts and scientific methods.  We will be working very hard in room 205 this year.  Your support at home is very important to your child’s success in school.  I greatly appreciate your help and support at home.

This support includes:

  • Making sure your child has excellent attendance and has an early bedtime. When your child is absent just one day they miss a great deal of instruction.  The 3rd grade curriculum is rigorous and your child will be working hard in school each day.  Your child needs to be in school everyday and well rested to keep up with all the daily lessons in each subject.
  • Limiting the amount of television and video games played during the school week.  Saving these activities for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is a good way to reward daily reading and homework completion.
  • Monitoring your child’s homework and daily home reading.
  • Reminding them to be Respectful, Responsible, and Kind.
  • Monitoring school supplies.  Your child must come prepared to work; this includes having pencils and their homework folder everyday.

This support is crucial to your child’s success.  I look forward to working together with you to ensure that your child has a successful and exciting school year.  I feel that it is important to have an open line of communication between home and school.  Please send me a note with your child if you have any questions or concerns, or leave me a message at school at 456-9367, or contact me through email at Thay.Chuk@ppsd.org.  It is my hope that we can work as partners throughout the school year in order to ensure an enriching and fun school year for your child.

Sincerely,

Thay Chuk, M. Ed.
