The 2017-2018 school year is here! First day of school is Tuesday, September 5, 2017

September 5, 2017
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to third grade. My name is Ms. Chuk and I will be your child’s 3rd grade teacher. I look forward to working with and getting to know you and your child. We are working to enforce Common Core State Standards. In Reading and Writing, I will be utilizing resources from the Reading Street program, Eureka ELA, as well as any other resources that will teach the students all the skills they need this year. I will be working hard to continue to develop and strengthen your child’s reading skills. Math will include resources from Eureka Math, MyMath, as well as other sources that will reinforce CCSS. Reading homework will usually be reading and possibly a writing sheet or two, and Math homework usually reinforces the math lesson of that day. Homework will usually be assigned at the beginning of the week and will be due Friday.
In Science, there will be hands-on activities that your child will enjoy while learning valuable science concepts and scientific methods. Social Studies will include geography, history, and behavior lessons, along with some current events. Your child will also be doing lots of writing in this school year. We will be working very hard in room 205 this year. Your support at home is very important to your child’s success in school. I greatly appreciate your help and support at home.

This support includes:
  • Making sure your child has excellent attendance and has an early bedtime. When your child is absent just one day they miss a great deal of instruction.  The 3rd grade curriculum is rigorous and your child will be working hard in school each day.  Your child needs to be in school everyday and well rested to keep up with all the daily lessons in each subject.
  • Limiting the amount of television and video games played during the school week.  Saving these activities for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is a good way to reward daily reading and homework completion.
  • Monitoring your child’s homework and daily home reading.
  • Reminding them to be Respectful, Responsible, and Kind.
  • Monitoring school supplies.  Your child must come prepared to work; this includes having pencils and their homework folder every day.
  • Practice speaking English as much as possible.

This support is crucial to your child’s success. I look forward to working together with you to ensure that your child has a successful and exciting school year. I feel that it is important to have an open line of communication between home and school. Please send me a note with your child if you have any questions or concerns, or leave me a message at school at 456-9367, or contact me through email at Thay.Chuk@ppsd.org. You can also visit my blog at http://www.mstchuk.blogspot.com. It is my hope that we can work as partners throughout the school year in order to ensure an enriching and fun school year for your child.

Sincerely,
Thay Chuk, M. Ed.
